Steven Howell

Contributing Writer

I have been a freelance writer for 14 years as a weekly contributor to the Plattsburgh Press-Republican.

I have written more than 1,200 articles on a variety of topics including Arts & Entertainment, Travel, Home & Garden, Family, Food, Seniors, Health, and Business - most of them with a Montreal twist.

My first book, Great Destinations: Montreal and Quebec City (Countryman Press), was released May 2008.

My second book, A Photographer's Guide to Montreal and Quebec City (Countryman Press) will be released July 2009.

I am currently writing and photographing my next two travel books: A Photographer's Guide to New York City and Great Escapes: Long Island. Both will be released in 2010.

In addition, I have also written for DAMn Magazine, the Montreal Gazette, and AirLines Magazine.

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh as a mature student in 2003. If you're my age (mid-40s) and are thinking about returning to school for that degree you never got - go for it! I highly recommend it.

My area of travel expertise includes Montreal, Quebec City, the Eastern Townships, Plattsburgh and the Champlain Valley, the Adirondacks, Long Island, New York City, Toronto, as well as travel info about U.S. and Canadian Customs and Immigrations.

I take a lighthearted approach with my articles and love to suggest places on where to sightsee and have fun, as well as where to eat and stay. I am definitely a self-proclaimed museum junkie.

I'm not so much a critic (there are enough of those out there), but I'll tell you what's where and why I liked it. I'll mostly offer some great travel suggestions specifically for Montreal and Quebec City. That said, please don't take my word for it - get out there, have some fun, and make up your own mind!

I welcome all comments.

Bon Voyage!
